Annual MEES Colloquium 2009

The 2009 MEES Colloquium will be held on Thursday, November 12 - Friday, November 13 in Annapolis, hosted by the UMCES Integration and Application Network (IAN) and the central MEES office.

The 2009 Colloquium will be held in two locations in the heart of Annapolis (www.visitannapolis.org). The first day will be at the Banneker-Douglas Museum (http://www.bdmuseum.com), which is housed in the old Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church at 84 Franklin Street in Annapolis (off Church Circle in the Annapolis historic district). Thursday's events will begin at 5:00pm and will include a reception/poster session, followed by dinner and a pub crawl. MEES students are strongly encouraged to participate in the poster session!!

NASA has confirmed that our own UMCES astronaut, Richard Arnold, will be the guest of honor at the MEES Colloquium on Thursday Nov. 12th at the Banneker-Douglass Museum. Born in Cheverly and raised in Bowie, Maryland, Richard Arnold earned his M.S. from the MEES program in 1992 under the guidance of Dr. Bill Dennison. He was part of the crew on Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-119 in March 2009 which delivered the final pair of power-generating solar array wings and truss element to the International Space Station. Friday we will meet at the State of Maryland Senate Office Building at 8:30am and the agenda will include a plenary session and discussion, followed by lunch, then six student talks in the afternoon.

Dinner on Thursday and lunch on Friday will be provided.

For those of you needing overnight accommodations on Thursday night we have a block of rooms reserved at the O’Callaghan Hotel at 74 West St, Annapolis, MD 21401-2824, (410) 263-7700 (www.ocallaghanhotels-us.com). When making reservations please ask for the MEES Colloquium reservation. Room rates are $120/night which is the state per diem rate for Annapolis. The block of rooms will be held until October 12 so please make your reservations early.
